How to File

HOW TO FILE AN FBN STATEMENT:

FBN STATEMENTS CAN BE SUBMITTED IN-PERSON, OR BY MAIL. ONLY ORIGINAL FBN STATEMENTS ACCEPTED FOR FILING.

STEPS TO FILE:
  1. Search the Yolo County Clerk/Recorder's Fictitious Business Name Index. It is the responsibility of the registrant to conduct a search of this index to assure the availability of the FBN in this county. 
  2. Complete an FBN Statement, see FBN Filing Requirements for instructions to complete all six-sections of the statement.
  3. Upon filing, you will receive three(3) certified copies of your statement, one copy is for the customer's record, one copy is for the bank (if you choose to open a business bank account), and one copy for publishing in a newspaper.
  4. Publish one certified copy with a general-circulation newspaper located in Yolo County at the time of filing your FBN statement.

Once registered the FBN Statement is effective for five (5) years.

RENEWAL Fictitious Business Name and one person $55.00
Each Additional Business Name and/or Person $8.00
Withdrawal of a Partner $55.00
Abandonment $55.00
In lieu of Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) $1.00
FBN Search Fee (Per Name) $5.00

In the ongoing effort to maintain costs and services, the Yolo County Clerk-Recorder asks that all document requests to be mailed to the customer include a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE). In lieu of the SASE the customer may elect to pay $1.00 for return postage which will be added to the document fee total.
