Weekend / Holiday Death Record Registration and Disposition Permits
The Yolo County Clerk-Recorder/Vital Records office can register death records and issue disposition permits on weekends/holidays in the event that the deceased was a member of the Muslim, Jewish, or other religious faith that practices the disposition of the body within 1-2 days after death.
Emergency Procedure
Upon a death within Yolo County that meets the above criteria, the following protocol has been established in concert with the Yolo County Sheriff's Office, Coroner's Section:
- The Funeral Establishment/Mortuary will contact the on-call Deputy Coroner at 530-668-5292 anytime during non-business hours.
- The Deputy Coroner will contact Yolo County Vital Records who will then register the death record and issue the disposition permit. Please note: the death record and disposition permit must be complete and will be reviewed by staff. If changes need to be made to the record before it can be registered, the Deputy Coroner will contact you.
- Please note: this procedure is only for deceased members of religions that practice disposition of the body within 1-2 days after deaths. If the deceased person was not a member of these religions, registration will take place when our staff returns to normal office hours.
Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS) - Vital Records
To unlock a record in EDRS, re-file burial permits, or request a letter of non-communicable disease (NCD), contact Yolo County Vital Records via email. The office hours for EDRS registration/service are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays.
Please note that the EDRS processing time (registering a record, unlocking a record, etc.) is approximately 2 hours.
