Marriage Certificate Request

Once your marriage license is returned to our office for registration, you may then obtain a certified copy of your marriage certificate which is sufficient for proof of marriage. 

Pursuant to Health & Safety Code 103526(c) only authorized individuals may receive a certified copy of a public marriage record. Those who do not qualify as authorized individuals may receive an Informational certified copy. Informational certified copies include the words "INFORMATIONAL, NOT A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY" imprint across the face. Please note that Informational certified copies do not exist for a Confidential Marriage; only the bride or groom are authorized to order a certified copy.

HOW TO OBTAIN A MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE (AUTHORIZED CERTIFIED COPY OR INFORMATIONAL ONLY COPY):

ORDER VITAL RECORDS ONLINE (Launching September 11, 2023): There is now an easier way to order and receive your Vital Records! Our new platform Vital Director allows customers to place orders and pay for Vital Records online, without having to step foot in our office and wait in line. We process orders within 24 hours and we have multiple shipping options. You will also receive email updates throughout the process so you can track your records. IN-PERSON 

  • Online Application, your order will remain in our service queue until you come into our office.
  • In our office you will sign the application electronically, pay the fee, and the certificate is handed to you at the service counter.

BY MAIL

  • Print (English)(Spanish) application.
  • Sign before a Notary Public.
  • Enclose a check, money order, or Credit Card Charge Form, with your notarized application to Yolo County Clerk-Recorder.
  • Processing time is 1 to 2 business days upon receipt.

BY FAX

  • Print (English)(Spanish) application.
  • Sign before a Notary Public.
  • Submit your notarized application via web submission or call 530-666-8130 for assistance (our fax machine is out of service as of January 19, 2022).
  • Call 530-666-8130 to confirm we have received your application and to provide us your credit card information.
  • Processing time is 1 to 2 business days upon receipt.

    MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MARRIAGE RECORDS:
    • Only marriage records that have been registered in Yolo County are available. Please contact the county where the marriage license is registered to obtain the record.
    • Marriage records held by the Yolo County Clerk/Recorder's Office begin in the year 1850.
    • The Yolo County Clerk/Recorder's office does not handle nor hold dissolution (divorce) papers. These documents are processed and held by the Civil Division of the Superior Courts.
