Burial Permits

To obtain a burial permit, you will need to contact the County Vital Records office in the county where the remains or cremains are legally interred. This can be determined by looking at the burial permit that is with the remains now.

If the cremains/remains are legally interred in Yolo County, you will need to contact:

Yolo County Clerk/Recorder's Office
Vital Registration Section
625 Court Street, Room B-01
Woodland, CA 95695

PHONE: (530) 666-8680
[email protected]

Please call to schedule an appointment before coming into the office. The entire process will take approximately 15 minutes.

You will need to bring a copy of the original burial permit and a certified copy of the death certificate and the name and address of the new place of disposition with you when you visit our office to obtain the new permit.

Weekend / Holiday "Emergency" Disposition Permits

Whereas normal business hours for filing disposition permits are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, the following limited weekend and holiday hours for processing “Emergency” Disposition Permits (in compliance with state regulations and requirements) will be provided: Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays between the hours of 10am and 12pm.

“Emergency” Disposition Permits will be issued for those deaths that occur after 12:00 noon on the preceding business day where the deceased was a member of the Muslim, Jewish, or other religious faith that practices the disposition of the body within 1-2 days after death.

Upon a death within Yolo County that meets the above criteria, the following protocol has been established in concert with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Section:

  1. The Mortuary will contact the on-call deputy coroner at the main phone number (530) 668-5292 anytime during non-business hours.
  2. The Coroner will contact Adrian Wheeler, Chief Deputy Registrar who will then make arrangements with the funeral home for processing the death certificate and burial permit between the hours of 10am and 12pm, Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
